BGMC Giving and End of Year Deadlines

by Mary Boyd, national BGMC coordinator

BGMC is racing along as we come closer to the end of 2015. You have just a few more weeks to make your goals for the year.

BGMC is having an awesome year! As of now, BGMC giving is 9 percent ahead of last year at this time--that's about $400,000 ahead of last year! If we stay on this pace, we will once again set another all-time giving record.

Currently, we have 36 districts that have their BGMC giving ahead of what they had for last year. Leading the pack for increases in giving are: Northwest Hispanic, Midwest Latin, Illinois, Southern Latin, Peninsular Florida, Florida Multicultural, Northern Missouri, Southern Pacific Latin, and Minnesota!  Way to go to all of you. We have another ten districts that are dead even or just a smidge behind last year, so everyone make a final push to finish strong. More giving means more souls being reached for the Kingdom!

Here’s some year-end ideas:

  • Have the kids stand at the doors of the church with a Christmas stocking (or a special Buddy Christmas Box) to collect change for BGMC.
  • Challenge the kids to earn money for BGMC while they are off school for Thanksgiving and Christmas break.
  • Challenge the kids to do extra chores between now and Christmas to earn money for BGMC.
  • Have kids give away free cups of hot chocolate and take donations for BGMC missions.
  • Have the kids bake and decorate Christmas cookies and sell them for a donation to BGMC.
  • Set up a table and do gift wrapping for a donation to BGMC.
  • Encourage the kids to make Christmas crafts and sell them for a donation to BGMC.

Please be sure to double check your BGMC giving totals with what your church shows and what BGMC shows. You do this by calling Contributor Services here at the National Leadership and Resource Center at 417-862-2781, ext. 8840, or toll free at 1-877-840-4800 (M-F 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. CST) or send an email to contributions@ag.org Don’t wait until the end of the year so that there is time for corrections to be made.

Below are two downloadable reports showing the top 20 churches in the nation for their BGMC giving and the top 10 churches in each division as of October 31. These rankings will also give you an idea of what you need to do to go over the top for BGMC. Congratulations to these churches that are working so hard for missions. We are seeing record-breaking BGMC totals for 2015!

When To Mail Your BGMC Offerings

Please remember that according to IRS rules, offerings have to be postmarked by December 31 in order to count for 2015. The offerings must be received here at the national office and not at your district office in order to count for 2015. If your church office is closed on that day, please mail your check in time to be postmarked. It is best not to wait until the last day to mail a check in case the post office does not get it postmarked in time. Checks received in Springfield with a January postmark will NOT count for 2015 giving. If your church treasurer / bookkeeper comes in after January 1, and cuts the check for December giving, it will not count for 2015 but would be credited for 2016. All checks must be mailed before the end of the year. The best thing is to have the check mailed before Christmas.

Make the check payable to: BGMC, memo BGMC – 007-001 on your check.

Online debit/credit card, PayPal, or E-Check contributions must be received no later than 7:30 p.m. (CST) on December 31 in order to receive credit for 2015. Donors who live in the Pacific time zone must remember we are 2 hours ahead of them time-wise. Additionally, credit card companies can take a couple hours before they release funds to us.

Mailed credit card contributions must be received by December 31 in order to receive credit as a 2015 contribution.

  • Any debit/credit card, PayPal, or E-Check contributions received on January 1, 2016 (CST) are considered by the IRS to be a 2016 contribution.
  • Online debit/credit card contributions (giving.ag.org) must be received no later than 7:30pm (CST) on December 31 in order to receive credit for the current calendar year. Mailed credit card contributions must be received by December 31 in order to receive credit as a 2015 contribution.
