BGMC Giving Update and Year-End Reminder

From Mary Boyd, national BGMC coordinator

BGMC is racing along as we come closer to the end of 2017. BGMC is having another awesome year. As of now, BGMC giving is 6.55 percent ahead of last year at this time—that’s about $338,000 ahead of last year! If we stay on this pace, we will once again set another all-time giving record.

Currently, we have 41 districts that have their BGMC giving ahead of what they had for last year. Way to go to all of you—wow! More giving means more souls being reached for the Kingdom!

Here are some year-end ideas that can boost your BGMC giving:

  • Have the kids stand at the doors of the church with a Christmas stocking (or a special Buddy Christmas Box) to collect change for BGMC.
  • Challenge the kids to earn money for BGMC while they are off school for Christmas break.
  • Challenge the kids to do extra chores between now and Christmas to earn money for BGMC.
  • Have kids give away free cups of hot chocolate and take donations for BGMC missions.
  • Have the kids bake and decorate Christmas cookies and sell them for a donation to BGMC.
  • Set up a table and do gift wrapping for a donation to BGMC.
  • Encourage the kids to make Christmas crafts and sell them for a donation to BGMC.

Please be sure to double check your BGMC giving totals with what your church shows and what BGMC shows. You do this by calling Contributor Services here at the National Leadership and Resource Center at 417-862-2781, ext. 8840 or  toll free at 1-877-840-4800 (M-F 9:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. CST) or send an email to contributions@ag.org. Don’t wait until the end of the year so that there is time for corrections to be made.

Attached is a report showing the top 20 churches in the nation for their BGMC giving and the top 10 churches in each division as of October 31. I know many of you are keeping track of these rankings. These rankings will also give you an idea of what you need to do to go over the top for BGMC. Congratulations to these churches that are working so hard for missions!

This is to let you know that we need your assistance with processing your offerings as we look toward the 2017 end-of-year closing. We would like to remind you that while all contributions postmarked on or before December 31 will be credited to the 2017 giving record, we are encouraging church treasurers to please mail or process your BGMC, CFK, or RR/MTB contributions by December 15, 2017. This will assist our team in crediting end-of-year contributions in a timely manner.

Please remember that according to IRS rules, offerings have to be postmarked by December 31 in order to count for 2017. The offerings must be received here at the national office and not at your district office in order to count for 2017. If your church office is closed on that day, please mail your check in time to be postmarked. It’s best to not wait until the last day to mail a check in case the post office doesn’t get it postmarked in time.  Checks received in Springfield with a January postmark will NOT count for 2017 giving. If your church Treasurer / Bookkeeper comes in after January 1st, and cuts the check for December giving—it won't count for 2017.  It would be credited for 2018.  All checks must be mailed before the end of the year. The best thing is to have the check mailed before Christmas.

Make the check payable to:  BGMC, memo BGMC – 007-001 on your check.

Online debit/credit card, PayPal, or E-Check contributions must be received no later than 7:30 p.m. (CST) on December 31 in order to receive credit for 2017. Donors who live in the Pacific time zone must remember we are two hours ahead of them time-wise. Additionally, credit card companies can take a couple hours before they release funds to us.

Mailed credit card contributions must be received by December 30 (not December 31) in order to receive credit as a 2017 contribution. December 31, 2017, falls on a Sunday this year and the national office is closed on Sundays.

Any debit/credit card, PayPal, or E-Check contributions received on January 1, 2018 (CST) are considered by the IRS to be a 2018 contribution.

Online debit/credit card contributions (giving.ag.org) must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. (CT) on December 31 in order to receive credit for the current calendar year. Mailed credit card contributions must be received by December 30 in order to receive credit as a 2017 contribution.
