From the Lips of Children
Myrna is a Bible school teacher in Venezuela. Her Speed the Light vehicle
keeps busy, driving girls from the Bible school to poor neighborhoods to teach
Bible classes to children. On Sunday afternoons, she takes the girls to another
town where they divide into three teams and teach on the streets. That Speed
the Light vehicle also drives students to churches, to women’s conventions,
and to youth rallies where the students can encourage other young people to
give their lives to God’s work.
One day in July of 2004, Myrna had some very special passengers in her car.
The missions director of Global University for Venezuela, Samuel Rodriguez,
was riding with her to visit the eleven district councils of the Assemblies
of God in Venezuela. Along with them was Samuel’s wife Adairys and their
daughters, Elianny, who is 14, and Sarai, who is five. Adairys represents a program
in Venezuela that teaches children to pray for missions and for issionaries
and the nations of the world.
Samuel sat in the front with Myrna. Adairys and their two daughters were sitting
in the back seat, along with the suitcases, boxes of materials, and a PowerPoint
machine. As they drove along, suddenly the right front wheel dropped
into a dip on the road, making the car swerve a bit to the right. Myrna was able
to get the car back onto the road, but she found herself in a lane of oncoming
traffic.
Myrna hit the brakes and began to turn the car back into the right lane.
Suddenly the car flew off toward the right, turned upside-down and flipped
around. The back of the car hit the ground, then the car bounced up and did
another half-flip in the air. The tail of the car hit a clump of trees, then the car
dropped to the ground. The driver’s side hit the ground first, and the tires on
that side went flat.
Miraculously, no one was seriously injured! Brother Samuel and Myrna had
their seat belts fastened, and they were in perfect condition. The three in the
back had a couple of minor bruises and some tiny bits of glass in their legs,
but God protected them.
Little Sarai told them that as soon as the car flipped upside-down, she prayed
to God and asked Him to protect them. This five-year-old’s prayers were heard
and answered.
Another miracle occurred when Myrna learned that it would cost $13,600 to
repair the Speed the Light vehicle. A man with a used car business bought it
from them, wrecked like it was, for $10,700. The money helped her to purchase
another Speed the Light vehicle. Now she can continue the work God
has called her to, because God provided her with a new car and kept her from
harm during the accident. God answers prayer!
