BGMC Lesson Touches Heart of Young Boy

By Sarah Wilson

Sam has always been more concerned about how his actions affected others instead of how they would benefit him. We knew this was the way Sam was. But because he was our first child, it just seemed natural until other people began to point it out.

Giving to others really began on Sam's sixth birthday. Sam decided he didn't need any more toys. On his own he decided everyone should bring a bag of cat or dog food to be donated to a local animal shelter. The look on Sam's face let us know his heart was full from the joy of giving.

That brings us to Sam's seventh birthday. A few weeks before his birthday, I asked him what he wanted to do this year. His response was, "The people in Bosnia need Bibles." I was floored by his response but kept my cool and pretended I knew this too. He continued: "It's been 10 years since the war, and there are still people who are homeless. I just know that if they had a Bible to read and knew how much Jesus loved them, their lives would be better."

My only response was, "OK, Bibles for Bosnia it is."
