A Young Girl and A Shoe Box

I just wanted to relay this story to you and give thanks to God for all He is doing with BGMC here at First Assembly of God Garland, Texas.

Howdyyyyy from Texas. I am excited to report on what God is doing through the BGMC giving here at First Assembly of God in Garland, Texas. Last year God put a desire on our heart to see our BGMC giving increase. In 2000 we were excited that God allowed us to give $500 to BGMC, but somehow we knew that God was calling us to do more. With God's help and the support of our Pastor and congregation we were able to raise over $6,000 dollars in 2001, more than we had ever given. Praise the Lord!

We put a challenge to the children and were delighted to see the response. The following is the story of one of the many children who sacrifically gave, as related to me by her mother—Kimbra Mouser.

As soon as Colbi accepted the challenge of raising money for BGMC, she began brainstorming ways in which to earn money. Of course the first thing that came to her mind as a nine year old was doing chores. She began asking "what could I do?" she was eager to work!

I also began thinking, "what can I do to help her without just giving her the money?" I immediately incorporated her education in this endeavor. I promised to pay her $2.00 for every book she read. Boy, did she start reading!

Third, she would count the money she had earned frequently. When she realized she was a little short of her goal, yet the deadline was nearing, she broke open her piggy bank and donated every bit. This included money she had received for birthdays, Christmas, etc...

The most touching thing was that she unselfishly gave her time and skills to help other children not as fortunate. She would have used that money to buy toys and clothes but she chose not to. I appreciate BGMC for giving Colbi and other children the opportunity to learn such a valuable lesson and give of themselves in such a life touching way.

Nine-year-old Colbi surpassed her original goal to raise $150 and raised over $250 for BGMC. We are thankful for what God has done through Colbi and all of the children here at First Assembly. We are excited to see what God is going to do with our BGMC giving in years to come.
