I Am the Lord's Servant

From the Desk of David Boyd, national director / BGMC

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary said after being asked to do an impossibly hard task (Luke 1:38). She was willing to be the unwed mother of Baby Jesus, to face the humiliation and be the talk of friends and family who would not understand.

Some of you have had friends and family ask: "Why do you spend your time teaching the children? You go every week. It takes your time. Someone else could do it." You do it because God asks you to, and you have responded by saying, "I am the Lord's servant."

Recently some friends of ours, Bob and Brian, joined missionaries Patrick and Jeannie Collins in Rwanda. This great country lost thousands and thousands of men, women, and children in the genocide which happened nearly 20 years ago. The country is rebuilding, and our heroes-our missionaries-are there reaching the children. Why? Why do they leave family and friends behind and travel to a far-off land? Because Jesus asked them to and they responded by saying, "I am the Lord's servant."

Thanks for teaching the children. Thanks for supporting our missionary heroes. Thanks for teaching your children to do the same.

Now go and make a difference!
